Obituary

Mr. John "Vic" Milner, 74, of Hazel, KY, transitioned to his heavenly home on Tuesday, January 16, 2024 at Baptist Health in Paducah.

Mr. Milner was born on March 24, 1949 in Frankfort, IN to the late John and Julia Catron Milner. He and his wife, Cheryl, are members of Calvary Temple Church.

Vic dedicated his life to spreading the message of Jesus and sharing his passion for martial arts. In 1975, he graduated from Murray State University with a Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, beginning his remarkable journey. He went on to become the first martial arts instructor at Murray State, earning recognition as a Murray State Superstar in 1972. In 1982, Vic gained national acclaim when he was featured in PM Magazine, showcasing his dedication to martial arts and inspiring countless individuals. Throughout his career, he had the privilege of meeting legendary figures such as Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris in 1969, a testament to his influence in the martial arts community.

A true lifelong learner of the arts, Vic held black belts in four different styles and established dojos in Tennessee, Kentucky, and Illinois. His impact extended far beyond the dojo, as he touched the lives of over 7000 students and mentored 56 martial arts instructors. As the Chief Council of Shihan's, he played a pivotal role in shaping martial arts. He founded the Christian Martial Arts Association, emphasizing a prerequisite for membership – a commitment to being a born-again Christian and follower of Jesus Christ. For several years, Vic contributed to the community by teaching at the Murray Calloway County Wellness Center. Known for his toughness in discipline and tenderness in heart, he was a man who believed he was placed on this earth to spread the message of Jesus.

He is preceded in death by his parents and infant sister, Brenda Milner.
